About Me

My Name is Jodi Bolyea. I love photography and love to create and capture images. Photography is not something I wish to do as a career in my life, however it will always be something I love to do, a hobby of mine.

I am a musician and that really ties into my photography in the sense that art is really all one big language. Some of the songs I have written I would like to one day create images to go along with them and put together slide shows, basically creating what I was feeling in a visual and audible presentation.

I love trying new things, life is a journey and an exciting one for me anyway. I really don't know whats next in my life but everyday is exciting and I will always carry my photography and music with me everywhere I as a signature of who I am.

Christina Donatella

Christina has a very unique way of doing her photography and has a very good eye for the beauty in people and what makes a "good image". Christina is a friend of mine and local photographer here in Barrie. She has always had a passion for photography and never leaves without her camera in her hand.
Wedding Photography is Christina's main style of photography however she also does a bit of everything else.
Christina is an inspiration to me because she has been very successful at what she does and has natural talent from the heart. She goes with the flow and is always very confident in what she does.

Some of Christina's wedding shots have the candid look to them which I personally admire. My favorite type of wedding photography is doing the candid look. Christina has a lot of artistic candid shots from her wedding photographs and is something I really admire about her work. She is able to take a photograph from a wedding and having it be a piece of art as well.

This is one of Christina's wedding photographs and is very artistic. there is a good balance between the objects in this photograph and the colors really set the feeling and mood for this photograph; very romantic and sparkly. This photograph as art photograph really conveys the message of love and life. "Together forever". The two rings in the center are placed on the flower and everything surrounding them is faded to soft black and white, making the flowing with the rings stand out and seem very important, symbolizing the importance of the marriage covenant for life. This is a neat way to get a message across using tools like colors and in composition where the main object or person is placed is very important.

Jeremy Cowart

Jeremy is another one of my favorite photographers. I love his documentary style and his passion for people. Jeremy does more than just documentary photography however this is my favorite of his styles of photography; others include: Music, Commercial and portrait photography. Jeremy's passion for photography and for people is much like my own. He went on a trip to Africa for three weeks approximately and came home with some of the most beautiful shots ever. I would say he is a realist in his work. He likes to captures life and the truth in life, the way things actually are. As a very young photographer he is a great success and even has made a book "Hope in the dark" from the beautiful images he captures during his time in Kenya, Africa a few years ago.

His Image above is from his trip to Africa a few years back, he captured the essence of the people for who they truly were and not for the stereotypical view the world has for the people of Africa. This photograph in particular really sticks out to me as a wonderful portrait because first of all the color in it is beautiful and bold and I love the positioning of the man to the right rather than in the middle as most people would think to crop it. This picture tells a story, we don't have a whole lot of information from the picture but by looking at the man and seeing the place in which he stands we can tell a lot about him. He has a fairly serious look on his face but this is who he is, he seems to be standing in some sort of a field, perhaps this man is a farmer and his life is devoted to farming to provide an income for his family, or perhaps he has no family and works out in the fields all day because he enjoys it and is a place he loves to spend his time. the balance in this photograph mainly comes from the colors in the background the dark greens in the pastures and the formation of the clouds fills in for the space there. One thing I always notice about Jeremy's portraits especially these African ones is the eyes and in my opinion the eyes are most important. I love the boldness in the mans eyes, and how they are captured so clearly, it really says something more about the person when the eyes are captured the right way and clear. This photograph is all about life, and enjoying everyday that comes. who knows what this man has been through in his lifetime but this photograph is so plain and in such a beautiful way it speaks life to me, even though the man does not smile, it seems that even from the colors, the blues and the greens that life is represented in this mans face.

Ansel Adams

Ansel Adams is a photographer who I greatly admire for his artistic qualities. His black and white photography is astounding and very moving and the beautiful landscapes he captured as a photographer leave me breathless. Adams was born in San Francisco, California and right from a young child always enjoyed the beauty of nature and taking walks through the forest. Adams at the young age of 12 taught himself to play piano and read music; leading him into a great career as a musician for the next 12 years. After having a tough childhood, music became an way of dealing with his past, an escape for him a way he could express himself in some ways; this also helped him with photography later on giving him a solid foundation for art appreciation.

After years of being a musician Adams put his music aside for his upcoming career in photography. Joining the Sierra club was very critical to Adam's later success as a photographer as he made many friends and mentors through Sierra club. Adams main style of photography was "straight photography" he used the clarity of the lens to make the images seem to appear pure and not manipulated. Most of Adam's photographs were artistic than anything, he was really great at capturing the essence of what nature was and the beauty of it through his amazing landscapes.

I find the Ansel and I seem to really have a lot of similarities. We both have a love for art and music, the only difference is I am going into music from photography as he went from music to photography. My passion for photography is mainly doing art photography as well as landscapes, as Ansel Adam's also.

In the above image entitled: Jeffrey Pine, Sentinel Dome by Adam's Lies a lot of truth and and something beautiful. As I have found out from research Adam's before his photography or even his music career was an environmentalist, hence the subject of the majority of his photographs. This image is very unique and stuck out to me because even though it is in nature the tree in his photo is very bent and uniquely formed. The tree has beautiful sunshine upon it, casting a nice shadow upon the rock it's planted on. Composition is really good and the photo is well balanced because of the shape of the tree and the shadow it casts. Because the image is in black and white makes it even more beautiful than if it were in color. I think that color would take away from the beauty it already carries. When I look at this image I get a very strong interpretation for the subject, being the fact that no two people on this earth are the same, everyone is unique in their own way. What determines beauty? uniqueness is what makes something or someone beautiful, rather than the stereotypical model of what our world defines as "perfect" or even in nature what a "perfect" tree would look like.
